ELSEWHERE
Journeys begin with a separation.
Steps lead you further into the unknown.
You slow down and open your senses to the surroundings.
Amidst shifting passages, the collective journey reveals itself.
Meaning is found through experience.
In this labyrinth, will distance converge into connection?
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
ELSEWHERE is a performative and experiential installation that takes the shape of a reflective labyrinthine journey. Throughout the wander, participants are invited to slow down and walk through the veils, move them across the space, and allow for distance to connect each other, rather than separate. It is in our human nature to be longing for somewhere else, but could it be that “elsewhere” is wherever we are present and connected to what surrounds us?
ABOUT THE RESEARCH
Jacques Rancière, French philosopher, brings forth the concept of “elsewhere” in his book The Politics of Aesthetics: The Distribution of the Sensible. He discusses the idea of “the distribution of the sensible”, which refers to how society’s divisions and hierarchies are maintained through what is and not seen, what is heard, and what is silenced. He argues that art has the potential to disrupt these divisions by creating new forms of visibility, new ways of experiencing the world through the realm of imagination.
